BLACK SPIDERWEB
During a residency in an abandoned boarding school at the edge of Gabrovtsi, I discovered that the third floor had been colonized by generations of swallows, whose nests lined the walls and ceilings. I wove a section of one room, leaving an opening for their daily flights. Initially, the birds passed only through the center, but over time, they adapted, navigating the woven structure with remarkable precision. At night, illuminated by flashlights, the installation transformed: fabric and shadows merged into a shifting spectacle, later recorded as part of the work. The piece explores the interplay between human intervention, animal behavior, and the dynamic cohabitation of space.
This installation and its construction methods are original artistic expressions developed by Lua Rivera as part of the Rivera Rhizomatic Construction Method.
