FLOWING FIBER
The installation work was custom-made to be installed inside the production area of a paper factory. Chung Hsing Paper Factory was built in 1935 as Taiwan's Business Company during the Japanese Rule. Once Taiwan's largest paper factory, its production volume was also the largest in Southeast Asia. In 2001, the factory closed, and for the following 13 years, it was never in operation. In 2014, Yilan County Government started promoting the arts and cultural industry and regional talent cultivation, and the factory was revived as an industrial heritage site. The artwork alludes to the fibers being broken and dissolved in water before they are processed into paper sheets. I meant to create a surrounding installation to let the public flow in the space and temporarily form part of the installation as they walked through the space.
This installation and its construction methods are original artistic expressions developed by Lua Rivera as part of the Rivera Rhizomatic Construction Method.
