IN BETWEEN
This work is inspired by the unique physical properties of crystals. Beyond their spiritual or healing associations, crystals possess measurable material behaviors that distinguish them from other natural forms. Under conditions such as pressure or heat, certain crystals generate electrical charges—a phenomenon known as piezoelectricity. Quartz, for instance, can amplify and transmit electrical energy, while other crystalline structures emit light when exposed to stress or sudden temperature change.
These properties have made crystals fundamental to modern communication technologies, including wireless systems and everyday electronic devices. The work draws attention to the invisible fields of movement and oscillation that surround us—energetic patterns that fill what appears to be empty space. Although crystals are not living organisms, their capacity to respond, transform, and transmit energy aligns them with broader discussions in geology and new materialist thought, where matter is understood as active rather than inert.

As Nikola Tesla observed: “In a crystal, we have clear evidence of the existence of a formative life principle, and though we cannot understand the life of a crystal, it is nonetheless a living being.”
