PRIMORDIA FUNGI

As we move through the city’s parks, we are surrounded by carefully maintained natural landscapes. Yet within these environments exist micro-landscapes that often go unnoticed. This installation draws attention to one such world by focusing on the early life cycle of mushrooms. Fungal growth begins with spores that develop into mycelium—a vast, thread-like network that expands beneath the soil. As the mycelium matures, it produces tiny primordia, nearly invisible to the human eye. These early forms are precursors to fully developed mushrooms and represent a critical stage of transformation, during which shape and color begin to emerge.

By enlarging the scale of mushroom primordia, the installation makes visible what is typically overlooked. The exaggerated forms disrupt familiar proportions, positioning the human body as small within a fungal landscape. Through this shift in scale, the work invites curiosity and attentiveness, encouraging visitors to reconsider their relationship to the micro-ecologies that quietly sustain urban environments.
