ROCK FORMATIONS

Kinmen Island, Taiwan, is characterized by distinctive rock formations that emerge along the peaks of its mountains. This work invites the public to explore an interpretive response to this geological landscape. By situating the sculptures along an existing path, the installation encourages moments of pause, contemplation, and sensory engagement, allowing visitors to experience the site through sight, sound, touch, and awareness of the shifting day and night skies.

Minerals and rocks serve as both material and conceptual references within the work. Their physical properties differ fundamentally from those of organic matter: under conditions such as heat or pressure, certain crystalline minerals generate electrical charges. Others emit light when subjected to stress or sudden temperature change. Although minerals and crystals do not belong to the animal kingdom, their capacity to respond, transform, and transmit energy suggests an active presence within the landscape, challenging conventional distinctions between living and non-living matter.
