WATER AND OIL "榮容"
Water and Oil reflect the transformation of East Taipei from the natural lake of Dawan (大灣) into today’s urban Da-an District (大安). Historically, water from Dawan Lake flowed into the Keelung and Danshui Rivers, and travel through the area required boats. As industry and population grew, the waterways were replaced by fields, canals, and buildings—like oil repelling water, shaping and altering the landscape. This woven artwork mirrors that interaction: water forms represent the soul of the district’s alley culture, while oil embodies industrial growth and urban development. Through this juxtaposition, the piece captures the tension between natural life and human-made transformation in Taipei’s evolving cityscape.
