The Rainbow Serpent is considered one of the most powerful and widespread Ancestral Beings of Aboriginal Australia. Rock art featuring this great Ancestral being dates as far back as 6,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuous religious beliefs in the world. The Rainbow Serpent dreaming in Aboriginal society represents one of the great and powerful forces of nature and spirit. Connected to water, the Rainbow Serpent is the great life giver, and protector of water, which is his spiritual home.
Inspired by the colors and variations of the Rainbow Serpent but also in the fluctuation of energy, Flux resembles a colorful river representing the changing energy and in constant interaction with the elements of the environment. The color strips combine their colors and transparencies in a loose fabric that extends throughout the piece varying its complexion. Flux floats over space creating undulating volumes in the landscape, periodically changing its shape by encountering the surrounding air currents and reminding us that the only constant law is energy in its perpetual flow.
