Mighty Jellyfish, 2023. Fabric, ropes, LED lights, and metal. Keelung City, Taiwan. 13m(L) X 5m(W) X 3m(H).
It could be that jellyfish are the most successful organisms on the planet. Ancient fossils indicate that they lived on the planet for at least 500 million years. As other marine animals struggle to survive in warmer and more acidic oceans, jellyfish are thriving and perhaps getting even more numerous. Some of them can lay 45,000 eggs in one night.
With this installation, I want to represent the life cycle of the jellyfish by creating a micro-ecosystem on a boat and showing the stages of growth of these incredible ancient creatures.
All the fabric is repurposed material donated by Yee Chain International Co.
